Power Over Death

by Greg Laurie on Apr 2, 2023

Sermon Notes

This week Pastor Greg Laurie finishes our series  7 Signs of Jesus with a message called “Power Over Death.” Join us in our study of Jesus’ miracle of Raising Lazarus from the Dead.

Application

Death is not fair; it’s harsh and mean and rips those we love away from us.

Death is not a friend; it’s an enemy!

“The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”

1 Corinthians 15:26

God did not want people to die.

  1. Life is filled with pain, sorrow, and the death of loved ones.
  2. God loves us.
    1. (Therefore, whatever He does or allows to happen in your life, as His child, is motivated by His everlasting love for you).
    2. “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”
    3. “He is a very present help in time of trouble.”
    4. Even though we cannot see how the situation will end, or why it has come upon us, we can know it flows from the love of God and is controlled by Him.
    5. We think of the temporal; God think of the eternal!
    6. Mary and Martha brought their doubts to Jesus!
  3. Because Jesus loves us, He weeps with us in our times of pain.
    1. (Jesus was/is God, with all His power and glory, but He also was a man who felt our pain and sorrows).
    2. Death breaks God’s heart, just as it breaks ours.
    3. The word troubled could be translated as, “He was mad!”
  4. God can be glorified through human suffering and bring good out of bad.
    1. Sometimes God will be glorified through the removal of affliction (in this case, death); and other times, He will be glorified through the enduring of the affliction.
    2. Heaven is the earthly life of the believer, glorified and perfected.
    3. Death is an enemy, but it was also destroyed!

Jesus Christ has power over death!
